Travelling At Night Antibes and Sanitarium NPCs
Roles for twenty-plus characters you can charm, help, or hinder
Weather Factory lists over twenty characters in the Travelling At Night demo, plus at least two semi-secret omissions. This page groups them by role so you can route social energy without a full script spoiler.
Antibes town
Andrée — libraire of the Librairie des Heures.
Léon — devoted servant of the State; Trace-flavoured friction.
Father Jaume — parish priest of St Reparata.
Janvier — Spencer’s tailor from before the Wars; older, still trustworthy with a needle.
Linou — tired, laconic, watchful patronne of Chez Felix Pompon.
Aristide — somnolent café cat.
Jean Bernard — poet and car mechanic, skilled in dejection.
Leopold — avant-garde Finnish painter; argumentative realist/existentialist, not a nihilist Russian caricature.
Philomele — lady of diffident elegance.
Zélia — grande dame of the old school (developer jokes about enabling her worst self elsewhere).
Sanitarium Aujourd’hui
Mathis — burly gentleman in orderly’s whites.
Dr Aubiere — sleekly smiling director with interest in people like Spencer.
Fraser Strathcoyne — philanthropist, collector, former Librarian of Hush House embracing Cross-nature; prefers Respectable clothing.
Khione — cat of striking size and vivid presence.
Bessy Bloom — always in graceful motion; softly humming.
Rodia — smiling woman with a tendency to greenery.
Vincent — Légion comrade orderly; recruitable—see Companions.
How to use the list
Match NPCs to your Career fantasy: Writers orbit Andrée/café poets; Exorcists orbit Jaume; Physicians orbit Aubiere/Mathis/Vincent; Conjurers hunt thin-place facilitators among the strange. Watch Trace when bouncing between Léon and café circuits. Details without scripts keep discovery intact—pair with Antibes walkthrough.
Cats are not filler
Aristide and Khione are listed for a reason in a Weather Factory game. Talk, observe, and do not assume animals are decoration.
Semi-secret characters
Find them yourself. This wiki will not cancel the developer’s hide-and-seek.
Social systems reminder
Charm opens doors; Dignity keeps them open in institutional rooms; Spivvery feeds you between conversations; outfits change first impressions; Footnotes change what Spencer brings into the next talk. NPC pages are useless if meters are ignored—Dread & Trace.
Role routing examples
Need crafts → Jaume/church orbits. Need books → Andrée. Need Trace lessons → Léon carefully. Need clinic access → Aubiere/Mathis/Vincent. Need collector politics → Strathcoyne with Respectable kits. Need mood → Linou’s café without living there forever. Need green weirdness → Rodia. Need elegance puzzles → Philomele/Zélia.
Replay casting
On run two, pick three NPCs you ignored and make them your compulsory visits. Density rewards this more than re-maxing the same Charm targets. Semi-secret characters remain your homework.
Passion casting
Compassion hears Bessy’s hum differently than Appetite. Curiosity diagnoses Aubiere’s smile differently than Ambition. Whimsy survives Leopold’s arguments differently than Melancholy. Use NPC roles as Passion gyms. If every conversation feels identical across Careers, you are not letting Passions speak.
State attention
Léon’s devotion is a living Trace tutorial. You can antagonise, help, or tip-toe—each teaches. Pair with meter journaling from Dread & Trace.
Twenty-plus without completionism
You will not max every tree. Aim for role coverage: State, church, book, café, tailor, clinic director, collector, orderly/companion, one artist, one grande dame, one green weirdness, one cat seriously. That coverage beats alphabetical completion and keeps Trace alive. Semi-secret characters sit outside the list as dessert. When guides say “talk to people,” they mean role coverage—not infinite Charm. Name five NPCs aloud after a session. If you cannot, you toured geometry without meeting Antibes. Names are the map’s real legend. Add a sixth name that surprised you—often a cat, a painter, or a grande dame you meant to skip. When Trace climbs, shrink the guest list to roles you still need. Coverage beats crowds. Antibes rewards selective hospitality more than relentless Charm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers drawn from the demo and official notes.
Do I need to meet everyone?
No. Cover roles that teach systems and advance Nenah/Vincent, then replay.
Who raises Trace fastest?
Loud, public, or State-adjacent conflicts—Léon situations deserve care.
Is Strathcoyne fightable?
No combat. He is a social/occult presence who judges cloth and Histories.
Are the cats companions?
Not in the Vincent sense—still interact.
